Herman’s Hermits – Starring Peter Noone
Will Open Barnstable County Fair July 17
Re-live the British Invasion of the mid 60s on opening night of the Barnstable County Fair. Herman’s Hermits and its charismatic lead singer Peter Noone will hit the main stage Friday, July 17 at 7:30 pm to reprise theirs long string of hits including “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter, “I’m Henry VIII, I Am,” and “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat?”
“Peter’s extraordinary talent, disarming wit
and handsome presence on stage will delight fans of all ages,” said the Fair’s General Manager Wendy Brown. “This will be a special treat for people who remember Peter as the 16-year-old, British-born superstar right down to today’s idol-adoring tweens.”
Monster Truck & More
For those who like their entertainment with a rougher edge, the Fair will present its first Monster Truck Car Crash paired with a championship Figure 8 Auto Race Tuesday, July 21 in the fairgrounds arena. “Guaranteed smash-ups galore,” promised Brown.
The “World’s Largest Demolition Derby” will return to the Fair Wednesday, July 22 as will the Team Extreme FMX/Motocross motorcycle trials on Monday, July 20.
Animal Acts
For the first time, the Fair will present “The Great Bear Show” featuring trained bears. It’s billed as the longest-running wild animal educational show around. Also, the “Birds of Prey” raptor show will return for another season by popular demand.
Wristband Days
Midway lovers can get their fill of thrills and chills by purchasing one of the popular wristbands, a ticket to endless rides, for $20. Wristbands will be sold July 17, 20, 21 and 24. Purchase and time restrictions will apply.
Seventies and ‘80s rock icon Eddie Money (Baby Hold On, Walk on Water). He will perform on the main stage Saturday, July 18. Known as one of the hardest working men in rock ‘n roll, Eddie Money has been charting singles and albums for 30 years. A former Long Island, New York police officer, he launched into stardom in the early days of MTV music videos.
- The Bellamy Brothers, (Let your Love
Flow) will take the stage Sunday, July 19 to perform their special blend of country and pop music. Howard and David Bellamy hold the record for the most duo award nominations from the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.
- Richy Jay Marcos & the Underground Cats
The spotlight shines locally Thursday, July 23 when Cape Codders Richy Jay Marcos & the Underground Cats take the main stage at 7:30 pm. Fronted by vocalist Sara Thompson, the Cats are a high-energy rockabilly & blues band that carries on the tradition of American Roots music.
One of rock’s legendary voices, Brian Howe, former lead singer with Bad
Company (Can’t Get Enough, Feel Like Makin’ Love, Rock & Roll Fantasy), will perform his long-running string of hits
on closing night, Saturday, July 25. Brian has sold more than 19 million albums in
a career that stretches back to 1983
when he was lead vocalist for Ted Nugent.
- The energetic, young star Josh Gracin (Nothin’ to Lose, We Weren’t Crazy) will take the stage Friday, July 24. He was the first to bring country music to American Idol - during its second season. The former Marine with a dynamic and energetic stage presence, Josh Gracin is one of the few solo country artists with a debut album containing three consecutive top-five hits.
“With entertainment dollars hard to come by in tight economic times, the nine-day Fair stands out as “a great deal on fun,” Wendy Brown noted. “General admission will stay at $10; kids 12 and younger get in free when accompanied by a fare-paying adult.”
