$38,000 in Student Scholarships to be Awarded Friday at Barnstable County Fair Kickoff Ceremonies
EAST FALMOUTH, MA – The non-profit Barnstable County Agricultural Society, operators of the Barnstable County Fair, will award $38,000 in scholarships to Cape Cod area students Friday at ceremonies kicking off the 2009 fair. The fair will run July 17-25 at the fairgrounds on Rte. 151 in East Falmouth.
The 19 scholarship winners will receive their awards at 7 p.m. on the main stage at the fairgrounds prior to a concert by Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone. Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Wendy Northcross will serve as master of ceremonies.
For many years, the society has used proceeds from ticket sales and exhibitor fees to make grants to college-bound Cape Cod-area students who major in agriculture, animal science, conservation and related fields. “It’s the best-kept secret about the society and the fair,” said General Manager Wendy Brown. “Each admission ticket that people buy helps in a small way to pay for the education of a group of deserving Cape-area students.”
